At Bay Tree Court Care Home, a well-established Care Home in Prestbury, Gloucestershire, there are a significant number of our Care staff who are trained and experienced in providing support to those with early stage Elderly Mental Infirmity (EMI) and even mid-stage Dementia.
Our senior management, which includes qualified nurses, are experienced in providing assistance to people who already have mild forms of Dementia. In addition we have relationships with external healthcare professionals who visit the home and provide expert guidance and advice on the treatment of the disease.
The home’s pre-assessment process is not only geared to determining, understanding and providing for a potential resident’s medical condition, but equally for their mental health needs.
We are well-versed in the development and stages of Dementia, including end-of-life care for those living with Dementia and the effect these can have, not only on the resident, but on next-of-kin and we are particularly conscious of the need for empathetic and sympathetic communication with those close to the resident.
At Bay Tree Court Care Home, we understand the impact the condition has on relatives and friends and we are always available to support this very important group of people to help them cope with the effects that Dementia might have on them.
Within this context and, given that the disease can be progressively degenerative, Bay Tree Court Care Home maintains ongoing relationships with relevant therapists and other healthcare professionals who are consulted from time-to-time on the most effective methods of managing the various stages of Dementia.
At Bay Tree Court, it is a basic tenet of Dementia care that the care staff always looks beyond the individual’s diagnosis and endeavour, wherever possible, to treat every person in our care as a unique individual who has lived a long and varied life. Wherever possible and medically feasible, our approach is governed by our ethos of “Care with Compassion” and informed by the principles of “Respect” “Choice” and the resident’s “ Best Interests’ Decisions”. We continue to evaluate and modify our response to the onset and development of Dementia in any of our residents. Our spectrum of Dementia Care includes “end-of-Life care” for those residents living with Dementia.
While we understand the unpredictable nature of the changes that the stages of Dementia can cause to an individual’s behavioural patterns, it is our commitment to always strive to enable the individual to remain at Bay Tree Court, if necessary, with the support from the local Community Mental Health Team.
Over the years our experience has demonstrated that, in the best interests of the resident, it is invariably preferable to endeavour wherever possible, not to change the resident’s lifestyle and “home” environment – familiarity with staff and surroundings is, while not a panacea for Dementia care, certainly a significant contribution to the individual’s comfort and peace of mind. Change can be challenging for all, particularly the resident. Notwithstanding, when, and only after consultation with the professionals and the next-of-kin, it becomes clearly necessary, we will seek with you, a more specialist placement, always with your loved one’s “Best Interests” in mind.
When you contact us, we’ll start by scheduling an assessment. This consultation will give us the chance to learn about you. With more information, we can lay out the foundation for your care plan. In addition, we’ll help answer any questions you, or your relative, may have about Bay Tree Court Care Home.
